Painting Technique
As a self-taught artist, the Painter Jacques Tremblay carefully observed and studied the works of the Great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masters - such as Cézanne and Van Gogh - while also being inspired by the Canadian artistic tradition of Marc-Aurèle Fortin, among others. After many years of intensive artistic labour, he developed and perfected his unique style of painting with oils on a black background , a technique derived from an old engraving and printing method called ‘La Manière Noire’ or ‘Technique on Black’.
During this now ‘instinctive’ process, the Artist completely paints his canvas black as his inspirational starting point. He then intensively adds layer upon layer of colour, masterfully leaving just the right amount of his infamous black border, which is actually the black background. Once completed, it immediately becomes apparent to the viewer that the Jacques Tremblay creation is an ingenious symphony of strong colours, bold impastos and sublime brushstrokes - all coupled with the magical ‘Technique on Black’.
